A Reddit post is going viral after a user shared why they uninvited their best friend from their four-day birthday getaway. The issue had nothing to do with money or booking problems. Instead, it came down to the friend wanting to bring along someone the original poster says they don’t get along with. Here’s what happened.
Redditor Says Best Friend Invited Someone They Don’t Get Along With
The Redditor explained that they wanted to celebrate their birthday in a big way, but without a big crowd. So they invited five of their closest friends and said they had even paid for the Airbnb months in advance. “I told everyone from the beginning that I wanted it to be a small group because I didn’t want the trip to become chaotic,” they wrote.
But two weeks before the trip, the Redditor says they found out their best friend had decided to invite someone else without asking them first. While that alone might have been frustrating given the guidelines they had already set, there was another problem. The Redditor says they don’t get along with the person their friend wanted to bring. “I’ve met this person several times, but we’ve never really gotten along,” they wrote.
The Redditor then admitted that they asked their best friend why they thought it was okay to invite the person, but the friend came back with, “It’s not a big deal, there’s enough space.” But to the Redditor, it was a big deal. They said they weren’t “comfortable with it” and reminded their friend that they were also the one paying for most of the Airbnb. Not to mention, it was their birthday trip, so they presumably wanted to spend it surrounded by people they actually get along with.

Well, the friend didn’t like that and told the Redditor they were simply trying to be controlling and decide who they could be friends with. “I eventually told them that if they brought the person anyway, I would rather they not come at all,” they wrote.
The friend allegedly didn’t take the suggestion well and said the Redditor was ruining their friendship over something “stupid.” While two of their other friends thought the Redditor “went too far,” others agreed that they didn’t. And people in the comments also seemed to be on the Redditor’s side, suggesting they weren’t the a--hole for not wanting someone they don’t get along with to be present on their birthday trip.
The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the claims made in the post, which are based solely on the author’s account shared on r/AmItheAsshole.
