A mother is going viral online over the parenting advice she has regarding how to raise her daughter. Apparently, the mother had posted a video of herself styling her daughter’s hair, and in it, she can be heard teaching her that people are jealous of her and that she should be aware of this.

The video apparently put people “in a frenzy,” as the mom explained in another clip reshared by X user @Kittenwaffin. So, she came to the internet to set the record straight about her advice, though many people still don’t seem to agree with her.

Mom Says She’s Teaching Her Daughter to Believe People Are Jealous of Her

The mom featured in the clip, which she recorded in response to the backlash she received over telling her daughter to be aware that people are jealous of her, says people should be doing the same. “If you're not telling your daughter that everyone is jealous of her, then you’re failing your daughter.”

She continued, “I have raised my daughter to know who loves her,” adding, “she knows who her girls who she rock with, she knows I'm not speaking about them.” But she tells viewers that if they’re not teaching their daughters that “when she goes into the world that people she will encounter, people she will meet, don't have her best interest,” they’re “setting her up for failure.” And she says, “I won't set my daughter up for failure, because I know she’s that girl.”

The mom confidently continued to justify why she’s raising her daughter in such a way, saying, “When her presence enters a room, they’re jealous of her. Yes, I'm gonna teach her that. If you not teaching your baby that, that's you, but mine, they jealous of you. They don’t like you, they’re jealous of you.” She then ended her clip with, “Feel how you may but that's just my take on it.”

Despite her reasoning and feelings on the advice, many people in the comments don’t seem to be in agreement. “Who is jealous of her? Get a grip,” one person wrote, adding, “YOU are setting her up for failure, putting her on a pedestal. When she grows up and hits the real world, her little world is going to crash when she realises, no-one is jealous of her. She's just an average person with a superiority complex.”

Meanwhile, another kept it short and simple, calling the mom’s take “Such a gross mentality!” But not everyone gave her backlash. Another person chimed in, saying, “Mine are grown & I do the same! When they got their hair done as little girls I said the same thing! Your baby is beautiful.”

The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the claims made in the videos. The views expressed by the mother and commenters are their own.
