X user Ravinder Singh (@ravindrajourno) shared the eyewitness footage on Aug. 23. His post said two women rushed to catch a train at Paddington station. It claimed train staff blocked them at the door while allowing other passengers to board. At the time of publication, the clip had gained over a million views and hundreds of comments.
Video of Women Trying to Board Train at London Paddington Divides Viewers
The footage showed a train standing at the platform, with several passengers gathered near an open door. A sign above the carriage appeared to identify the section as first class.
The two women approached the train with luggage as other people stood nearby. A member of staff appeared to control access to the carriage. The video did not show what happened before the women reached the door.
The person recording the moment reacted to the exchange in real time. “Oh,” the person said. “Yeah, that was very mean.”
That reaction reflected the confusion many viewers later expressed in the comments. Several people felt the clip looked unfair but lacked crucial details.
“Need the context but not a good look,” one commenter wrote.
Another viewer questioned whether the women simply arrived too late to board. “The others could just jump on, but they’d take time with their bags?” they wrote. “The train was on the point of departure.”
Some commenters suggested the women may not have known where the train was heading. One person asked whether they had received incorrect information about the train’s destination.
“Maybe they asked where the train was going and the guard informed them that it was going somewhere else?” they wrote.
Other viewers showed little patience for the apparent delay. “Get there earlier, it’s not hard…” one commenter wrote.
A different user pointed to the importance of scheduled departures. “It’s almost as if a train is a scheduled mode of transport that has a departure time….” they wrote.
However, some commenters strongly criticized the staff member shown in the video. “Sack the guard,” one person wrote.
Others raised the possibility of racial discrimination, although the footage offered no evidence supporting that conclusion. One commenter wrote, “guess this is an ‘Asian free train’.”
Another user responded with a single word: “Racism.”
The original video did not identify the train’s destination or departure time. It also did not explain whether staff had already begun closing the train. That missing context divided viewers into two camps. Some saw an unnecessarily harsh interaction, while others saw staff enforcing a departure schedule.
The Daily Dot could not independently verify why staff stopped the two women from boarding. The footage captured only the final moments of the interaction.
