‘6 Procedures in 8 Hours’: Brazilian Woman’s Death Sparks Heated Debate Over Cosmetic Surgery

The death of a Brazilian businesswoman after undergoing six facial cosmetic procedures has sparked a wave of discussion online about the risks of undergoing multiple surgeries at once. Family members have alleged that her condition worsened after the procedures and questioned whether the hospital had the facilities needed to handle a serious postoperative emergency.

The case involved Andreia Vieira Gaspar, 51, who died on Aug. 12 after undergoing more than eight hours of cosmetic procedures in Goiânia, Brazil. According to Brazilian news outlet G1 Goiás, the procedures reportedly included a deep facelift, neck liposuction, work on her eyelids and jawline, and other facial interventions. The Public Ministry of Goiás has requested a police investigation into the possibility of involuntary manslaughter.

Family Says Andreia’s Condition Worsened Hours After Surgery

According to G1’s reporting, Andreia’s sister, Djiane Vieira, said she became concerned shortly after the surgery when she noticed her sister’s tongue was severely swollen and that she could not close her mouth. Djiane said she repeatedly raised concerns with members of the medical team as Andreia’s condition worsened.

The family also alleged that the hospital did not have an intensive care unit or an ambulance available when Andreia experienced complications. G1 reported that Andreia’s condition deteriorated about six hours after the surgery, and she died following attempts to resuscitate her.

The doctor involved in the case, Lessandro Martins, said he would cooperate with the investigation but would not publicly discuss Andreia’s clinical information because of medical confidentiality. Hospital Ankar said it regretted her death and maintained that she received emergency care immediately.
