TikTok user @mer_dorman shared the experience in a video titled My $70 Five Guys Experience: Why I’m Done Eating Out. The clip later circulated on X, where many users agreed with her complaints.
“I’m Almost Done With Eating Out”
Dorman opens the video by explaining why she has grown frustrated with restaurant food. “I think I’m almost done with eating out,” she says. “Every time we do, I feel like I’m just underwhelmed by the food.”
At the same time, she says restaurant prices leave her feeling overwhelmed. Dorman says her husband, Hayes, wanted a cheeseburger, so they visited Five Guys. Their order included two cheeseburgers, two fries, and two shakes.
However, Dorman says neither of them initially wanted the shakes. She claims the employee repeatedly encouraged them to order shakes despite their refusals.
“Lady, are you working on commission or what?” she jokes in the video. Eventually, they ordered two Oreo shakes. Then came the final bill.
“Anyway, $70,” Dorman says. “$70, what?” Dorman said the price would have felt easier to accept if the food had been good. Instead, she says the food disappointed her. She specifically criticized the amount of cheese on her burger.
“I couldn’t even see the meat because of all of the cheese,” she says. Dorman claims the burger tasted like it contained Cheez Whiz. She ultimately delivers her verdict in three words.
“Never again,” she says.
X Users Say They Are Also Done Eating Out
Dorman’s complaints resonated with people commenting on an X post featuring the video. Many users argued that restaurant prices have increased while food quality and service have declined. At the time of publication, the video had drawn 384,000 views and 13,000 likes.
“I used to eat out plenty,” one commenter wrote. “Now it just feels like a waste of money.”
Another person claimed restaurants now charge significantly more for meals that once cost much less. “Everywhere you go it’s like $50-$100 bucks,” another commenter wrote. “There’s no escaping it and the quality is not there.”
Several commenters specifically blamed inflation and rising operating costs for higher restaurant prices. Others pointed to tipping culture and service charges as additional frustrations.
Some commenters acknowledged that restaurants face rising costs for wages, utilities, rent, and ingredients. Others argued those factors did not account for every price increase.
“I look [sic] better food than most restaurants plus I can ensure fresh, quality ingredients,” one person wrote. Another commenter shared a simpler reason for avoiding restaurants.
“I’ve quit eating out,” they wrote. “I won’t spend anymore money on food that isn’t even good.”
The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify Dorman's order total, the specific interaction with the Five Guys employee, or whether her experience is representative of the chain. The details above reflect her account as shared on TikTok and reposted on X.
