According to TMZ, the 29-year-old from Fairfield, California, is now officially charged with four felonies. First-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and vandalism. He pleaded not guilty on every charge. Since then, a criminal protective order has been issued against him, and his bail has been increased to $250,000.

The incident happened on April 7 in Burbank Court's Block 1700 when Nichols showed up at a neighbor's front door wearing flip-flops and a black trench coat.

Things took a weird turn when he identified himself as 'Harry Dresden', the fictional wizard protagonist of Jim Butcher's novel series The Dresden Files, rather than by his true identity, when he spoke into the Ring doorbell camera. He yelled, "My name is Harry Dresden, mother f---!" KTVU reports. "This is my neighborhood."

It wasn't. According to NBC News, the homeowner had never seen Nichols, who resides behind the family's house.

The whole thing then turned unexpectedly worse. According to KTVU, Nichols screamed "Where's your daughter?" and demanded the door be opened, threatening to "f------ kill" the homeowner if he refused.

After repeatedly kicking the front door and smashing the Ring doorbell off the wall, he broke through a gate and entered through a sliding glass door. The homeowner's pregnant wife and their five-year-old child were inside, who hid in the garage.

The homeowner wasn't at the residence, but he was using his security app to watch everything unfold in real time. He hurried back, picked up a shovel, and went inside his own house to confront Nichols.

Both males suffered head injuries in the ensuing scuffle. The homeowner was then heard stating on camera, shovel in hand, "I'm giving you a chance —get the f--- out of my house," according to KTVU.

Within minutes, police arrived, discovered Nichols outside the house, arrested him, and took him to NorthBay Medical Center for treatment. Later, the Solano County Jail received his booking.

Since a different witness came forward regarding another incident involving Nichols and her child, authorities have added a charge of irritating or molesting a minor, according to KTVU. No other information on that occurrence has been made public.

Police couldn't clarify Nichols' motive, whether he was targeting a child from the household or someone else. Nichols' next court date was set for April 23.

The Ring footage has made rounds around social media, gathering millions of views on X and Reddit within days, sparking memes, remixes, and genuine public concern in equal measure. According to Know Your Meme, one clip alone received more than 14 million views in three days.
