The Daily Dot reached out to Wendy’s via email, Katy Perry via email, and Kesha via email, for comment.
Social media accounts are “beefing” after the all-female Blue Origin mission launched on April 14, 2025. What many hoped would be a historic celebration quickly turned into a social media laughing stock, with jokes and memes launched soon after, including wishes for Katy Perry to remain in space indefinitely. Even fast-food companies got in on the trolling, with Wendy’s throwing shade.

How a viral Wendy’s tweet set the tone for Katy Perry backlash
It all started when X account @PopCrave posted an image of Perry shortly after the singer landed back on Earth. “Katy Perry has returned from space,” @PopCrave wrote in the caption of the April 14, 2025 post, which received 19M views, 80K likes, 8.9K reshares, and 2.8K comments.
One comment that stood out came from the Wendy’s X account (@Wendys), which simply said, “Can we send her back.” The simple sentiment went viral, with 641.4K views, 26K likes, 3.5K reshares, 973 saves, and 1.4K comments.

Wendy’s didn’t stop there, taking things a step further with a new post later that day. The burger brand stated, “I kissed the ground and i liked it,” resharing a pair of images posted by X account @PopBase which wrote, “Katy Perry seemingly kisses the ground after returning from Space,” in the caption.
The viral post has over 2.3M views, 38K likes, 2.3K reshares, 841 saves, and 963 comments.

“Why she acting like she just came back from exploring a different planet?” X user @Dieggo replied in the comments, to which Wendy’s replied, “She realized there’s no biggie bags on the moon.”
“‘I hope Jeff Bezos don’t mind it’,” added X user @Austin_Medzz, with Wendy’s responding, “Now she knows what it’s like to be a plastic bag floating in the wind.”
Despite the jokes, some felt the burger brand went too far with their trolling.

“This is actually DISGUSTING,” wrote X user @dualipalicious, resharing the comment from the Wendy’s X account on April 15, 2025. “A woman goes to space a literal historic moment and the first thing a fast food chain does is make a tired, bitter joke at her expense? wendy’s, be serious.”
“This isn’t edgy, it’s just embarrassing,” the post continued. “Y’all really let a social media intern project their misogyny with a verified check. katy perry has done more for pop culture than your entire menu ever will. sit down, serve your square burgers, and maybe stop punching down on a woman who’s done nothing but succeed.”

Even celebrity gossip commentator Perez Hilton agreed. “What a lame tweet for a fast food restaurant to send,” the blogger replied on X (@ThePerezHilton). “That’s some old school Perez Hilton sh*t. Mean. Bullying.”
Kesha joins Wendy’s in shading Perry
Other notable social media accounts joined in on the Katy Perry trolling once Wendy’s opened the floodgates—including Kesha, singer and a former friend of Perry’s.

On April 14, 2025, the artist posted a selfie of herself on her X account (@KeshaRose) wearing sunglasses and sipping from a plastic Wendy’s cup. The post has over 5.7M views, 46K likes, 6.8K reshares, 1.1K saves, and 2.8K comments.

Though not explicitly stated, many assumed the post was a direct reaction to the Wendy’s/Katy Perry Blue Origin commentary. X user @cornbreadsays summed it up: “So katy perry went to space to promote her flop tour but the internet started wishing she died up there for some reason and even wendy’s the restaurant tweeted ‘can we send her back’ and later that day kesha (who used to be friends with Katy) posted a selfie with a wendy’s drink.
The two singers were formerly friends before falling out based on their associations with producer Dr. Luke, with Kesha alleging the producer had sexually assaulted and abused both herself and Perry.
Perry denied these allegations, causing a judge in the case to determine Kesha falsified her claim. Tensions became more heated after messages emerged between Kesha and Lady Gaga, accusing Perry of being “mean” for not publicly supporting Kesha’s case against Dr. Luke.

“The way this woman can send Katy’s fanbase into meltdown over the word ‘lol’ or a selfie with a Wendy’s,” replied X user @TayGaRihAna in the comments of Kesha’s post.

“You’re pathetic wasting your time on this stuff instead of focusing on your flop music career,” added X user @Abdullahaf992, posting several images of Perry in her Blue Origin uniform, “While Katy Perry is out there touring, making music, and becoming the first pop star to go to space.”
Celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Olivia Munn add fuel to anti-space tourism sentiment
Earlier in the month, actress Olivia Munn criticized the all-female Blue Origin launch on an episode of “Today With Jenna & Friends” from April 3, 2025.
“I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now,” she shared on the show.
“It’s so much money to go to space, and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs,” she added, calling the 11-minute timespan in space to be “a ride” and “a bit gluttonous,” especially given the fact that everyone in the rocket would have their full hair and makeup done.
“Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind,” Munn stated. “What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
As news of the successful launch and return reached the world, other celebrities piled on criticism and commentary.

Actress and model Emily Ratajkowski spoke out on her TikTok account (@emrata) on April 14, 2025, reaching over 2.2M views, 318.9K likes, and 4,375 comments.
“That Space Mission this morning,” she began in the video of herself in selfie mode. “That’s end time sh*t, like this is beyond parody. Saying that you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s single-handedly destroying the planet,” she added, digging at a quote Perry gave about protecting Earth while viewing it from space.
“Look at the state of the world, and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space,” Ratajkowski continued. For what? What was the marketing there?”
“I’m disgusted. Literally, I’m disgusted,” she concluded.

“Last second, they added me to space,” actress and comedian Amy Schumer declared in a sarcastic video of herself on Instagram (@amyschumer), joking that she’d be part of the Blue Origin launch. Schumer added that she would be taking a small figurine with her that has “no meaning” but which was conveniently located in the purse she was carrying on her way to the launch.

Olivia Wilde had a simpler message: “Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess,” the actress wrote as text overlay in her Instagram Story (@oliviawilde) from April 14, 2025, with a post from the @Betches Instagram account rounding up memes related to the Blue Origin event.
