Chelsea Clinton is standing up for President Donald Trump’s youngest son after jokes about him appeared to circulate during the inauguration and throughout the weekend.
For years many have considered the young children of presidents off-limits from criticism. It does happen on occasion, but it's usually met with massive backlash. A Saturday Night Live writer deleted her account last week, for example, after tweeting that “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”
Clinton, who spent eight years in the White House and is one of a handful of people who has an idea of what being a First Kid is like, defended Barron’s right to a childhood just like everyone else in a post shared across her social media channels. Despite the outcome of the election, Barron is still a 10-year-old kid.
Clinton is standing up for every kid, including the First Son, and as she notes, that also means she’ll stand up against Trump’s policies that harm children.
