Season 4 of The Witcher has finally been released on Netflix, but there's one major change.
The Hunger Games alum Liam Hemsworth has taken over the lead role of Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill, the former Superman actor, originally played the part. The casting change was announced in 2022, but Cavill returned to the role in Season 3, released in 2023.
Now that fans are finally seeing Hemsworth in the role, they have a lot of opinions.
The Witcher first debuted on Netflix in 2019. In addition to Cavill/Hemsworth, the show stars Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Mimî M. Khayisa as Fringilla, and Joey Batey as Jaskier.
The fantasy drama is based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. There's also a popular video game series that began in 2007.
Why did Henry Cavill leave The Witcher?
When Cavill's departure from the series was announced, the actor released a statement. While the actor did not explicitly explain his reasons for leaving the Netflix show, it is believed he wanted to pursue other projects.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill shared.
“In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf," he continued. "As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him. Enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Fans react to Liam Hemsworth in The Witcher
The new episodes of The Witcher dropped on Netflix on October 30th. The reviews for the season have been mixed, but most of the negative reactions aren't about Hemsworth's performance. However, many of the posts from viewers are slamming Hemsworth. Cavill fans have always been passionate, so it's no surprise to see some harsh tweets.
Some fans still gave it a try, but won't be returning to watch Season 5.

What is the witcher without henry Cavill?

The Witcher season 4 just feels wrong without Henry Cavill. I made it 4 minutes in and had to pause, it’s like watching a knockoff of its own show.

And don’t even get me started on the writing of this season. What happened? ? pic.twitter.com/TyCgZlsfmn
Ultimately, it doesn't feel right for some people without Cavill.
Watching The Witcher season 4 feels exactly like this.

Thanks a lot, Netflix. pic.twitter.com/did4nBv8HP
I will never forgive @netflix for replacing him.

Watching The witcher season 4 without him feels like staring at an empty screen. pic.twitter.com/pmE5ZUZafv
But Hemsworth is not the only problem...
The Witcher S4 is a disaster. Liam Hemsworth's Geralt is a soulless shell, and side characters are chalkboard-nails annoying. S3 was the peak. This is the worst downgrade of the century; they chose the wrong Hemsworth! ? https://t.co/N0NQcH5gxh

Anya Chalotra has always been the MVP of THE WITCHER and the main reason to keep watching, and it’s no different in a wildly uneven and tonally confused S4. The show has never known what it wants to be, but Yennefer remains the most compelling aspect, and it’s not even close. pic.twitter.com/bZPRHgt2a9

Meanwhile, some people are showing their true colors by whining about the season's sapphic romance.

However, some people ended up enjoying Season 4.
So i just finished The Witcher season 4 on Netflix and holy shit, they actually made the best season yet, it's probably the most close to the books they have ever been and that last episode was perfectly displayed.
