Alleged kidnapping attempt on NYC subway caught on video

A video appearing to show an attempted kidnapping on a New York City subway is drawing attention after being posted to YouTube earlier today.

Featured Video

The two-minute clip shows a man in a red jacket trying to talk to a girl sitting next to a sleeping guy, who appears to be riding with her. The man in red nudges her foot a few times, to minimal response, and when the train stops, he snatches her and runs off with her.

The girl manages to get away from him and alerts the man she was with while trying to get someone to call the police. The man in red hangs out on a bench for a while but flees the station when people from the train attempt to pursue him.

While the video description suggests this incident occurred on the 4 or 5 train, commenters on YouTube have said that this is actually the 6 train at the Morrison Avenue-Soundview station in the Bronx.

Another video began circulating several hours later, claiming that the man was spotted on the street later that day and confronted by people who either saw the original attempted kidnapping or saw the video of it and recognized him.
