In YouTube Right Now, the Daily Dot looks at videos that catch our eyes, push our buttons, and move our dials—and that you’ve just got to watch. Right now!
It takes a lot of guts to admit you’re a grown man or woman obsessed with pastel-colored show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic—AKA a brony.
And that’s just coming to terms with your fandom. After that, bronies struggle with a stableful of first world problems, from getting emotional over fanfiction about baby fillies to getting trolled on Twitter by voice actress Tara Strong, to struggling to fit one’s adult bulk into a T-shirt for little girls.
“The Brony Song” is a tearful, tuneful musical that dramatizes the many plights of brony fandom. Bronies of every age and gender share their troubles to the tune of an aria.
We’ve got less sympathy for bronies in general, however, than for AJ Pinkerton and Peter Srinivasan, the bronies behind this musical. According to their tip, this entire production was filmed and screened in less than 24 hours while the two were visiting AM2, a fan convention in Anaheim, Calif.
We’ve covered Pinkerton and Srinivasan’s fan culture musicals before. Under the name Random Encounters, these two musical theater pros create quirky geek musicals, each with an uncanny Gilbert and Sullivan impression.
