With over 72 hours of footage uploaded every minute, it’s physically impossible to keep track of the content on YouTube. But in YouTube Guide, the Daily Dot will curate its five favorite finds for each workday.
1) Geek and Sundry, “Goth Boy”
One of the most creative Web series to hit YouTube of late is “Written By a Kid,” a new show from Geek and Sundry that dramatizes a cute, little kid’s imaginative, fantastical story each week. In its second episode, comedic songwriting duo Rhett and Link stop by to act out eight-year-old Cici’s tale of Goth Boy, a macabre figure who learns to love his new stepson Max, played here by Link.
2) Slacktory, “Walking and Talking about Walking and Talking”
The walk and talk: a busy bee’s social habit as old as time itself. And while Aaron Sorkin’s work on The West Wing may be the ultimate cinematic showcase of the famed multitasking move, it’s certainly not the only example. Thanks to this massive supercut put together by Slacktory, we can now see just how often the tactic’s been put to good use.
3) Rejected Pitches, “Back to the Future”
In the series premiere of Above Average Network’s new Wednesday series Rejected Pitches, a team of movie executives break down the impossibilities behind Robert Zemeckis’s Back to the Future and try to tie the ends together so that everything fits into its correct, rational place. Of course, that sort of defeats the purpose of Back to the Future, one of the most cherished films of the last 30 years. But who’s counting?
4) Smart Girls, “Boys Minute with Will Arnett”
Amy Poehler and her staff of Smart Girls have been hijacked by Will Arnett, Poehler’s husband, who’s out to show the female-friendly Web series just how guys like to spend an afternoon. In Arnett’s case, that means video games, tossing footballs, and wearing sunglasses inside the house—all at the same time.
5) Nick Offerman, “Somebody Up There Likes Me (Promo)”
Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman’s got a new movie coming out next March, one called Somebody Up There Likes Me, and he’s going about promotion in a rather alternative way: ripping bong hits on a bed with Alison Brie and Megan Mullally. Apparently it was something he’s wanted to do in a more official capacity since the film premiered at South by Southwest 2012, but legal procedure got in the way. Obviously that makes it a perfect fit for YouTube.
