Humor can be hard to pull off on TikTok. Not everyone can be a comedy king.
The “Wow So Smart Comedy King” meme has evolved on TikTok. It already existed in text form, as a sarcastic reaction to bad jokes, but users upped the stakes by adding an unenthused clap. According to Know Your Meme, one of the first videos in the trend was from jacksoin, and features the caption “When someone taps on your shoulder and pretends it wasn’t them,” accompanied by audio of someone saying, “Wow. So smart. Comedy king. Genius. So funny. Living legend.”
This spread to other topics on the platform, and the (often sexist, racist, and homophobic) interactions people endure—and roll their eyes at.
And then there are just the time-tested bad jokes that have endured for decades.
