Vytautas mineral water will rip the space-time continuum and take you into the future!
Or so goes a faux ad for the Lithuanian mineral water Vytautas created by YouTuber katashnis85.
Featuring tropes the Internet finds sacred like Stephan Hawkings, Freddie Mercury, Reddit Rage faces, bashing Twilight, cute kitties, bronies, boobs, dubstep, and outrageous Insanity Wolf-like statements, the video titled “Vytautas Mineral Water! It’s Earth’s Juice!” has already charmed Reddit, Tosh.0, the Daily What and Buzzfeed.
If the fake ad seems familiar, that’s because it’s based on the Brawndo: Thirst Mutilator commercials (katashnis85 changed the background color to blue). For those unfamiliar, Brawndo was a made-up energy drink featured in the now cult-classic 2006 movie “Idiocracy.” Real life consumers clamored for the product, and less than a year later, Brawndo became a reality.
katashnis85 began making fake Vytautas commercials based on the Brawndo spots (which were inspired by Powerthirst commercials) back in June of 2011, for a university project. The clip was so popular in Lithuania that he went on to make six more, before uploading a version in English yesterday.
A fake commercial parodying a fake drink that became real?
It’s almost too meta for the Daily Dot.
No word yet on whether or not Vytautas will actually start using katashnis85’s ads, but in this day and age, anything is possible. (The band Major Lazer hired Kyle Frere to film a music video for them, based on his viral video work.)
“So I think someone need start max out export of Vytautaus after this,” commented YouTuber Paulius56.
