Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith paid Tyrese $5 million to stay off the internet

Sometimes, it’s best to just log off.

It’s been a rough month for Tyrese Gibson.

The actor is going through a contentious divorce, and has been flooding his social media channels with way more personal posts than usual. Last week, while the Fast and Furious star’s ongoing feud with co-star Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson was already making headlines, Gibson posted a video of himself crying over his current custody battle for his daughter Shayla. If that sounds like a lot of public drama from an actor you don’t know too much else about, that’s exactly right.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith apparently saw Gibson’s posts and decided to step in. The couple offered their buddy a deal: They’d give him $5 million to cover his legal fees as long as he promised to stay off social media for a while. Simple enough.

Gibson apparently accepted their offer, but then made the confusing decision to announce the whole thing via Instagram Sunday evening.

“Jada-Pinkett Smith and my brother Will Smith just sent us 5 million dollars to help keep us afloat,” Gibson wrote. “You’ve guys asked me to get off and stay off the Internet now that my daughters legal fees will be paid ! will listen…”

Since making the post about the Pinkett-Smiths, Gibson has posted seven more Instagrams, eight tweets, and posted to his Facebook page twice—not exactly a hiatus.

There’s no word yet from either camp on whether this impacts the loan, but something tells us Gibson has not been adhering to the terms and conditions.
