On Friday morning, Taylor Swift fans noticed something was amiss. All the photos on her Instagram were gone.
Over on Twitter, her avatar had disappeared. But as of Friday morning, some recent tweets remained.
Ok but why wipe your profile images but not your tweets? Or did we just catch it WHILE she was doing the wiping? pic.twitter.com/3A5eAl5vOR

However, a few minutes later, her account showed all tweets before September 2015 were gone.
Why would Swift delete her social media? It’s not clear. Some wondered if she’d been hacked.

Her official website has literally gone dark, and her Facebook avatar is gone.
Of course this blackout restarted rumors that Swift would be releasing a new album soon. The singer recently won a groping case against former DJ David Mueller, and made a donation to Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation, a group for survivors of sexual assault. Perhaps she’s trying to reframe the narrative after a year in which she was flooded with snake emoji. Or maybe she’s just really into anniversaries.
