Sofia Vergara may have become a household name stateside playing a bombshell stepmom on Modern Family, but IRL she’s apparently a little more reserved.
Which is why she says her decision to be the cover girl of September’s Women’s Health Naked Issue is a bit out of character. The actor explained that when she initially got the call about the shoot, she “told [her rep], ‘I’m going to be 45 years old! Stop putting me in naked things! Let me age with dignity!’” But after she figured out a tie-in for her new underwear startup EBY, she started to see the appeal.
EBY is an underwear subscription service sold directly to consumers online rather than wholesale to stores. Customers can decide how frequently they want fresh underwear delivered to their house, and there’s a woke twist: 10 percent of the company’s sales go to the Seven Bar Foundation, which works to “fuel microfinance and benefit underprivileged women around the world.” In other words, 10 percent of the proceeds from this underwear company are apparently going toward helping women in underserved communities start their own businesses. Not shabby.
Once the shoot had a cause behind it, Vergara says she had an easier time with the idea.
“Here’s a woman, 45, being able to show her body,” she told the magazine. “It’s not like before, when it was just young girls.”
The issue hits stands Aug. 8.
