On Twitter, everyone knows you’re Samuel L. Jackson.
Three days ago, Jackson sent out his first tweet from his verified account:
“Can-a muh fukkasay fuck on here?”
Fans needed no further proof that it was indeed Jackson and not a ghost writer. Since then, he’s accumulated nearly 170,000 followers with his profane, authentic tweets.
Today, an interview with Jackson about his Twitter habits was posted to the MountaintopPlay YouTube channel. Jackson said he hadn’t heard about Twitter until recently, and he’s still learning how to use it.
At first, Jackson got some advice from his web team to solicit followers from other celebrity friends.
“When I started to do that the ordinary people, I guess, on Twitter were like ‘Hey, you don’t have to be a Twitter whore, people will follow you,’” he said. “‘We’re just glad you’re here.’”
Since then, Jackson’s approach has been to use Twitter just like one of us ordinary people. He replies to regular peoples’ accounts, retweets fans when they ask, and is otherwise personable.
“Rather than being a celebrity on Twitter I just want to be another one of the people who occasionally bounces a thought out there or says something nice to somebody because they like me,” he said.
And that’s exactly the way the ordinary people like it.
