Reds pitching prospect Ian Kahaloa was suspended on Tuesday by Major League Baseball for 50 games after testing positive for drugs for a second time in his career. New video recently released shows us why that might be.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported there have been Snapchat videos of Kahaloa circulating for the past few weeks that appear to show him using recreational drugs while wearing a Cincinnati Reds shirt.
There are four videos, and they were uploaded to Twitter by @Reds_1fan, who appeared to film somebody else’s phone while they played the Snapchat videos (the Twitter account, for what it’s worth, was activated in March).
You can view the four tweets here.
Kahaloa’s agent, Dave Matranga, told the Enquirer he could not confirm that Kahaloa—who had a successful season in rookie ball last season—was the person in the videos. But Jeff Graupe, the Reds player development, said Kahaloa is, “to the best of our understanding,” the person featured.
