Saturday Night Live doesn’t return until the fall, but luckily we don’t have to wait that long to see the newest White House communications director satirized on TV.
The question of just who could play Anthony Scaramucci on TV started popping up almost as soon as Scaramucci joined the Trump administration last week. However, The President Show—a parody late-night talk show—wasted no time in debuting its own version of Scaramucci with Sex and the City actor Mario Cantone. And like with Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump, it was instant magic.
Cantone was already willing to portray Scaramucci if approached by Saturday Night Live, and his first turn on The President Show shows plenty of potential. Cantone’s Scaramucci is front and center at a press briefing with Trump reacting in real-time behind him (instead of on Twitter), and there’s even a nod to Scaramucci’s infamous phone call with the New Yorker.
Although having both Trump and Scaramucci in the room can be overbearing at times, it’s a solid team-up—and probably one that, unlike the real thing, won’t end in betrayal.
