This week we’re live from the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas, a weeklong tangle of standup, improv, and sketch. One of the fest’s highlights happened on Friday night, when former Texas Sen. Wendy Davis told stories at the Spider House Ballroom and improvisers turned them into scenes. She spoke of her 13-hour 2013 filibuster in protest of anti-abortion legislation SB5, and the intimate details of a faulty catheter.
We also spoke to Katie Rich, improviser and writer for Saturday Night Live, about the politics of deleting a tweet and connection between memes and the Algonquin Round Table. And standup comedian Marcella Arguello talked about writing for Bill Nye‘s Netflix series, the changing tide for women in standup, and how there’s a Rihanna GIF for every occasion.
Take a dip.
