Netflix seemingly ups the ante every month with its deluge of new original content, and June is no different. Dystopian anthology series Black Mirror returns for a fifth season comprising just three episodes, one of which stars Miley Cyrus as a pop star whose life isn’t nearly as glamorous as it seems. (Sound familiar?) The Confession Tapes returns for a second season, delving into four more accounts of people who confessed to heinous crimes they claim they never actually committed. But the fun doesn’t stop with original programming. Superhero movie fans can rejoice over the return of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, while Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings onto the platform for the first time.

What’s new on Netflix: Editor’s picks
Dead to Me
Dead to Me is a comedy, drama, and thriller all wrapped up into one TV series. It follows Jen as she attempts to come to terms with the death of her husband Ted in a hit-and-run accident by solving the murder, right as she meets warm and positive Judy at a grief support group. The two form a fast friendship and team up to find the owner of the car responsible for Ted’s death, despite their different personalities. The most fun part about watching Dead to Me is the twists and turns sewed into the plot, making it an easy series to binge watch in a weekend. —Tess Cagle
Tuca & Bertie
Tuca & Bertie, the debut show from BoJack Horseman production designer Lisa Hanawalt, starts with a moment of transition: Two best friends, Tuca (Tiffany Haddish) and Bertie (Ali Wong), who are residents of Bird Town, are no longer cohabiting. Bertie’s boyfriend Speckle (voiced by Steven Yeun) has moved in. There’s an uncertainty there, but the pulsating colors and hybrid characters of the show lift you up. This 10-episode series shares an animation aesthetic with BoJack, but that’s about it. There aren’t any crossover characters or storylines, and Tuca & Bertie is more focused on the lives of women in their 30s than one horse-man’s depressive spiral. —Audra Schroeder
See You Yesterday
See You Yesterday stars Eden Duncan-Smith as CJ, a science prodigy who invents a pair of time-traveling backpacks with her friend Sebastian (Dante Crichlow). When a police officer kills someone close to them, they must use time travel to save him without screwing up the timeline. The film’s zany humor and colorful aesthetic take cues from Back to the Future and Bill & Ted, and Duncan-Smith gives a charismatic breakout performance, smoothly shifting between youthful banter and the sudden shock of grief. Significantly more thoughtful than your average Netflix original movie, See You Yesterday marks Bristol and Duncan-Smith as ones to watch. —Gavia-Baker Whitelaw
