You could go swimming and hiking every day in August—or you could stay in your air-conditioned home and watch what’s new on Hulu. The streaming service makes it easy to binge by welcoming nine Star Trek movies, four Final Destination films, the original Terminator, and the hilarious 2006 satire (or documentary?) Idiocracy next month. Hulu original documentary Jawline tells the story of teenage micro-influencer Austyn Tester, who harnesses his viral fame to escape the confines of his rural Tennessee hometown. School Spirit, the 11th installment of holiday-themed anthology horror series Into the Dark, also lands.

What’s new on Hulu in August 2019: Editor’s picks
Into the Dark: Culture Shock
The Fourth of July installment of Hulu’s holiday-themed horror anthology series follows Marisol (Martha Higareda), a pregnant woman who’s determined to cross the Mexican border into the United States, but ends up somewhere much more surreal. Culture Shock coincides with the horrors of border crossing and ICE detention playing out in real time, and politicians having a semantics debate over whether we’re running concentration camps. It imagines a worst-case scenario, which might not seem that far off, while showing a reverence for ’70s Mexican horror flicks. —Audra Schroeder
The Beach Bum
The Beach Bum sees Matthew McConaughey transforming into the ultimate bohemian layabout, Moondog. The performance here is stellar. McConaughey’s inherent charisma is a perfect framing for the outlandish Moondog.“I’m a bottom-feeder, I gotta go low to get high,” says the washed-up poet who spends his days meandering around the seaside bars. Director Harmony Korine has moved onto the hedonistic portion of his career, examining human ugliness through the lens of excess and luxury. The Beach Bum has no cohesive theming or satisfying comeuppance for its despicable anti-hero and that’s deliciously true to life. Moondog is the same person he was at the beginning of the film when the credits roll. It can be equally appreciated as just a psychedelic, drug-fueled wild ride or as a thesis refuting the very concept of the hero’s journey. —Ignacio Martinez
The Handmaid’s Tale season 3
Season 3 of the dystopian drama picks up right where season 2 left off, with June giving her baby to Emily (Alexis Bledel), who is escaping to Canada. Watching The Handmaid’s Tale in 2019 isn’t fun, and it doesn’t feel like entertainment. But it’s one of the strongest original drama series available on a streaming service. If you’re invested in the original story, it’s worth watching to find out how it unfolds this season. Gilead doesn’t feel that far off—it never did. —Tiffany Kelly
