Here at the Daily Dot, we swap GIF images with each other every morning. Now we’re looping you in. In the Morning GIF, we feature a popular—or just plain cool—GIF we found on Reddit, Canvas, or elsewhere on the Internet.
Extreme sports: extremely entertaining.
You don’t have to be a daredevil or a bloodthirsty, misanthropic, Darwin Award official to enjoy the sublime sport of surfing. It’s so beautiful and serene that even casual bystanders can enjoy it from the safety of the beach. While the tensions immortalized in Surf Nazis Must Die may thrive out on the waves, from the shore it all looks like so much pretty blue wallpaper.
With half-naked athletes all over it.
Lockie, a 19-year-old from Perth, Australia, is all over that, creating beautiful GIFs of extreme sports of all kinds and posting them to Tumblr. We must confess to liking his surf stuff best; the ocean’s roar is a lot more mellow than the grinding of a skateboard on concrete. Some of his most creative images show not the athlete, but rather the reflection from a photographer’s lens.
This GIF shows an aerial 180, reflected in a huge telephoto lens. While it’s a clever bit of collage, rather than an undoctored image, it’s nonetheless effective and evocative. So far, it’s collected 21,058 notes, and we’d bet every time the weather is too bad to surf, it collects a few more.
