Remember Momo, the freaky half-woman, half-bird sculpture that supposedly lured kids into performing suicidal tasks? She’s getting her day in Hollywood with a horror flick.
The sculpture, created by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso, became infamous when rumors spread in 2018 and resurfaced in 2019 about the creature popping up in children’s YouTube videos, encouraging kids to perform dangerous and even suicidal challenges.

Momo turned out to be a viral hoax. YouTube even had to step in and dispell the rumors, saying there was no evidence of their legitimacy.
“Contrary to press reports, we’ve not received any recent evidence of videos showing or promoting the Momo challenge on YouTube,” a YouTube spokesperson said in February. “Content of this kind would be in violation of our policies and removed immediately.”
Even so, that didn’t stop Hollywood from picking up the idea for a flick. Production companies Orion Pictures and Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment are working on bringing the Momo Challenge to the big screen, with Taka Ichise producing the film, according to Deadline.
Lee and Ichise previously worked together on The Grudge and The Ring franchises. And Ichise is best known for producing It.
