Louis C.K. 'I Love You, Daddy'

Louis C.K. has kept pretty quiet about the subject of his new movie I Love You, Daddy, and it became clear why at the film’s premiere Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is “the story of a TV producer whose teenage daughter starts hanging around a revered art-film director who’s been dogged for years with unresolved accusations of pedophilia and rape,” wrote Sam Adams, who reviewed I Love You, Daddy for Slate.

The director character is played by John Malkovich, with C.K. as the TV producer and Chloë Grace Moretz as his teenage daughter.

In essence, the Manhattan-style film portrays the allegations of sexual abuse made against Woody Allen. But in light of the sexual harassment rumors that C.K. has decidedly not addressed, the film might have more layers of meaning.

Nevertheless, C.K. has attempted to address the ways the public interprets the controversies of “great” artists.

“The idea for the movie sprang from the question of how the slack we cut great artists for their personal failings might shift when the matter of their present conduct is no longer an abstraction,” C.K. said in his introduction to the film at the festival.

The film, which was picked up by the Orchard for $5 million, does not yet have a release date.
