Comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member Leslie Jones announced a new standup special with Netflix during a Thursday night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Jesse Collins Entertainment will produce the hourlong special, set for a 2020 release. Jones joins a long line of comedians who have recently released Netflix standup specials, including Wanda Sykes, Kevin Hart, and Amy Schumer in 2019 alone.
“Y’all finally get to see what I really do. I am actually a standup comic,” Jones told Kimmel. “It’s great to be the actress and the sketch and all that stuff, but I am actually a standup, hardcore. That’s what pays the bills.”
The announcement comes at a great time for Jones, as the Emmy-nominated actress will also appear in Sony Pictures’ upcoming The Angry Birds Movie 2, where she plays the main villain, Zeta. The animated comedy, set for release on Aug. 14, also stars Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, and many more.
Jones will film her special in September in Washington, D.C. She made it abundantly clear that President Donald Trump is banned from the show and “banned from my life.”
