Kids say the darndest things—like “Blackened roar, massive roar, fills the crumbling sky / Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry.”
That’s from Metallica’s “From Whom the Bell Tolls,” a hard rock staple interpreted by three tweens as part of a brilliant, 18-minute tribute to the California legends.
OK so the guitar player kid with the backward hat kind of fucks up the guitar solo, but that’s really missing the point: Metallica, more than the Ramones or Nirvana, is the most enduring and important American rock band. Those candy-store licks are sure to endure forever, propped up by a pummeling 12-year-old on a starter Mapex kit.
Fight the good fight.
