Another week, another fashionable and moving Kanye West project.
The relentless rapper on Friday released the music video to “Wolves,” and it’s a morose, celeb-fueled after-party. Sporting colored contact lenses and crying tears, West and wife Kim Kardashian mope amid glamorous models (including cameos from Maria Borges, Cindy Crawford, and Kylie Jenner)—despite the walled-off nightclub, the hangers-on are unshakable and omnipresent.
It’s a sentiment made all the more claustrophobic by director Steven Klein’s use of fast-moving, Snapchat-inspired short videos: The party is elite and overrun with swooshing pans of beautiful people—but it’s all buried in fleeting blurs.
The song has been through numerous mixes and lineup changes—it was performed in February 2015 on Saturday Night Live—but the version that now appears on The Life of Pablo includes vocals from Sia and Vic Mensa. Both appear in the video, though Frank Ocean—whose vocals were relegated to outro duties—is nowhere to be found.
Unfortunately, this video does still contain the West lyric, “You left your fridge open, somebody just took a sandwich.”
