John Oliver reminds America what it missed by declaring independence from Britain

English expat John Oliver celebrated Independence Day in his own unique style: with a video reminding Americans what they’re missing by being independent from Britain.

Just think: If the U.S. hadn’t declared its independence in 1776, Americans might still share that classic British sense of pessimism. Not to mention the British monarchy, the side effects of which include a constant, low-level sense of inferiority to the Queen.

Although who knows, maybe Britain will have its own Independence Day to celebrate in the next couple of years. Just as soon as the British political establishment gets itself together and figures out when Brexit is going to happen for real.
