Being a white man on the Internet can be hard, as you never know when you’re going to offend someone with your privileged societal status.
Thankfully, Hoffstad is back with another Internet Comment Etiquette installation to help you deal with this conundrum. Filmed in a backyard in New Jersey, the six-minute lesson showcases at least three examples of common comments white men can mistakenly make.
Want to opine on a YouTube video of a black man getting arrested? Don’t mention that your white race prevents you from relating.
Other things to not do in your comments: Share details of your life, go into non-sequiturs, randomly plug your favorite video game or your next dubstep gig, or bring up the fact that your day was unbearably boring before you saw the video you’re commenting on. That just makes you sound pathetic.
Despite Hoffstad’s blatantly inebriated state (Hoffstad downs three beers, alone, while watching a YouTube video about staying sober), the reflection on YouTube’s comment culture is a treat, as always.
Pro tip: if you own any Ed Hardy attire, now is the time to get rid of it.
