Don’t pick a fight with Gigi Hadid.
Jake Paul, in his never-ending search for continued relevance, just picked a very inadvisable fight. A tweet aimed at former One Direction member Zayn Malik instead caught the attention of Malik’s girlfriend, Gigi Hadid. Hadid did not take the attempted diss well and proceeded to decimate the YouTube star.
Paul’s initial tweet was clearly intended to start something, though he did avoid tagging Malik’s Twitter profile.
“Almost had to clap up zane from 1 direction because he is a little guy and has an attitude and basically told me to fuck off for no reason when I was being nice to him,” Paul wrote, likely misspelling Malik’s name on purpose. “Zane ik you’re reading this… stop being angry cause u came home alone to ur big ass hotel room hahaha.”
Malik and Paul were both in Las Vegas over the weekend to watch Tyson Fury trounce Deontay Wilder to become the new WBC heavyweight champion. It is unclear exactly what transpired between the two, though Paul offered a few details in a later tweet. “Bro he literally started yelling and freaking the fuck out,” Paul wrote. “‘You wanna test me mate.’ lol I feel bad for childhood stars.”
It seems likely that the argument was spurred by the results of the match, but given the reputation Paul and his brother Logan have earned, it’s difficult to say. Regardless, Hadid was absolutely not willing to let the insult stand. Her vicious response was intended to draw blood.
“Lol cause he doesn’t care to hang w you and your embarrassing crew of YouTube groupies,” she wrote. “Home alone with his best friends like a respectful king cause he has me, sweetie. Unbothered by your irrelevant ugly ass. Go to bed.”
Paul has yet to respond to Hadid’s epic clap-back, but it’s likely only a matter of time. The Pauls have long subsisted on online drama, which has become a big part of their brand. For Paul, who certainly wants to keep the views flooding in, a beef with high-profile celebs could be a dream come true.
Despite Paul’s earnest attempts to come out on top, commenters have already selected a winner in the Paul vs. Hadid fight—and he won’t like the results. Finding a pro-Paul comment in the slew of responses to each of his tweets is a nearly impossible task. Hordes of commenters piled on, dragging the YouTube personality in brutal fashion. “Zayn Malik just told an abuser, homophobic, transphobic, & Islamaphobic youtuber to stay away from him,” one commenter wrote. “2020 is such a great year.”
If all else fails, the difference in likes between Paul’s tweet and Hadid’s speaks volumes. Paul’s original tweet boasted just under 10,000 likes as of this article’s writing, whereas Hadid’s was pushing 120,000.
