The curtains on Diggnation, one of the Web’s oldest shows, are drawing to a close in December.
Hosted by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht since 2005, the weekly show highlighted top stories on the social networking site Digg. The no-frills show (the entire set consists of a couch) garnered a vibrant fan base of roughly 250,000 viewers a week.
As for why they’re ending it, the pair told the New York Times they simply outgrew the show and can’t dedicate the time needed for it. Rose left Digg earlier this year to create Milk, an application development lab. Albrecht hosts other shows on Revision3, the Internet network that produces the show.
Fans of the show have been lamenting of the end of the show on Twitter since the annoucement was made earlier today.
“That’s really sad. Diggnation is an incredible web show. I watch it every week. Oh well. Life moves on,” tweeted Colton Frey. Another fan said the show prompted her to start her own podcast and one fan threatened to unfollow and block Revision3’s Twitter account to punish Diggnation for the cancellation.
