Demi Lovato has issued a public apology via Twitter after posting a Snap of her mother joking about the Zika virus.
In no way did I mean to offend anyone last night. I was laughing at how southern my mom sounded, not the issue at hand. Deepest apologies.

Lovato posted a video to her Snapchat story of her mother, Dianna Hart, who said “Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus,” on camera. Hart was holding what appears to be a cocktail. Lovato can be heard laughing in the background, and she added the laughing (or joy) emoji to the post.
Offended at the idea that Lovato enjoyed the joke, fans got the hashtag #DemiLovatoIsOverParty to trend after word of the video got out. Lovato, however, seemed unfazed by them and addressed their efforts in a series of tweets.
If you watch everything I do, you’re still a fan.. I ain’t goin nowhere bitches 👋🏼

It’s an awesome feeling when you’re so content with life and yourself that hate doesn’t effect you.. Feelin’ good y’all 👍🏼💗☺️

Lovatics, as her fans are known, also seemed to get a kick out of the trending topic, posting their own responses into it.
