Here’s one reason to follow your favorite athletes on Twitter: They might buy your dinner.
NFL star Chad Ochocinco, who long ago established himself as a player who loves to interact with his fans, tweeted an invitation Monday night to his followers in New York City.
“1st 200 people at Sylvia’s Restaurant by 7 pm in Harlem. Leave ya money/credit cards at home. I got you this time,” he posted to Twitter and Facebook, where he has, respectively, over 3 million followers and 2 million subscribers.
That left fans with less than three hours to jet to Harlem. By 6:20 pm, Sylvia’s Twitter account posted a picture of a hungry crowd lining up around the block.
It’s unclear if latecomers were turned away, though it’s likely considering his invitation was liked and retweeted thousands of times. However, plenty of those who were served made their gratitude clear online.
“When I say this was the best Monday I’ve ever had.. I’m not lying…lol … I want to thank you so much for generosity and your humbleness. I had a GREAT TIME,” wrote K Lynn Patterson.
“Thank u @SylviasSoulFood @ochocinco 4 a truly epic night. Wonderful place where the people are better than the food and the food is amazing,” tweeted @karlhawes.
