Celebrities really are just like us: Staring at their phones in disbelief as social media algorithms beam exhausting and omnipresent news. On Tuesday President Donald Trump addressed the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, in a speech that seemed to absolve the white supremacists who were there.
And as POTUS’ remarks once again raised doubts about his condemnation of white supremacists, whom he called “very fine people,” celebrities added their voices to the national conversation. And so, here are their tweets:
No, not the same. One side is racist, bigoted, Nazi. The other opposes racism and bigotry. Morally different universes.

Do you think @realDonaldTrump @POTUS saying “both sides are to blame” in #Charlottesville makes him a racist supporter? Yes or no?

To every member of Congress – harsh words are not enough. You cannot allow a neo-Nazi defender to remain in power. #ImpeachTrump

One good thing about that abomination of a speech: it’s now impossible for any Trump supporter to pretend they don’t know what he is.

It’s the silence that ruins freindships/relationships. It’s impossible to “love” ppl & stay silent in the face of their pain. Are u an ally?

It’s the kind of political stress that makes you want to make like R&B great Lionel Richie, and consider sitting out the president’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony.
