It’s a big day for former Ohio State and current Buffalo Bills quarterback Cardale Jones. The same man who brought the world that legendary 2012 tweet about the pointlessness of student athletes taking classes just graduated from his alma mater, earning a bachelor’s degree in African-American studies. Suffice to say, his attitude toward academics sounds like it’s changed a little bit over the years.
It was a long time ago, but it drew a lot of attention. As an incoming freshman, Jones tweeted that “classes are POINTLESS,” and that “we ain’t come to play SCHOOL,” winning himself some major attention on social media in the process. He ultimately deleted the tweet amid controversy, and he even served a one-game suspension over it. But it lived forever in screenshots, and in people’s collective memories.
One person who clearly hasn’t forgotten is Jones himself. On Sunday, during his commencement, Jones showed off the top of his graduation cap on social media, featuring a very familiar phrase.

For what it’s worth, Jones apologized after he sent the tweet all those years ago, saying it wasn’t actually reflective of his attitudes toward academics, blaming it on being upset after getting a B on a sociology exam and calling it “a dumbass thing to do.” Nowadays, however, it’s a quote he can clearly wear both as a badge of honor—and proof of a sharp sense of humor.
