The recent NBA lockout has left basketball players with a lot of free time on their hands.
Some have spent it honing their skills overseas; others have been building their brand.
Detroit Pistons power forward Ben Wallace, 37, on the other hand, has been getting into trouble, and Twitter can’t stop tweeting about it.
Wallace was arrested Saturday on the suspicion of drunken driving in the upscale city of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., according to the Detroit Free Press. In the back of the 2007 Cadillac Escalade Wallace was driving in police found an unloaded pistol in a backpack.
According to the Free Press, Wallace “is expected to appear Oct. 3 for a pre-examination conference in 48th District Court in Bloomfield Township,” and faces a 5-year felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
On Twitter Wallace was a top trending topic. The former All-Star has been mentioned more than 1,400 times in the last few hours, according to statistics from Topsy, a social media search engine.
The masses on Twitter were not very kind to the aging player, who helped the Pistons win the championship in 2004.
“Pistons’ Ben Wallace arrested on DUI and gun charges. Did you see his Blood Alcohol Content? It was higher than his shooting percentage!!” tweeted Mark Swift (@markswiftmusic).
“SOURCES: The gun charge against #Pistons F Ben Wallace will be dropped because they know he can’t hit anything from more than 2 feet away,” tweeted @NotSportsCenter.
“Ben Wallace was arrested for concealed weapons. This isn’t surprising considering he concealed his offensive weapons throughout his career,” tweeted Sammy Rigaud (@sammyrigaud).
In basketball terms, that’s a flagrant foul.
