Martin likes to announce casting news for Season 2 of Game of Thrones, which will be based on Martin’s second A Song of Ice and Fire book, A Clash of Kings, using riddles he poses to the fans who follow him.

The most recent guessing game, a post titled “I’m Blue,” teased: “The she-wolf of France has stormed the barbican. The Aussie turned her into a bunny.”

Martin’s followers had to guess which role had been cast and who the lucky actor was. Some fans guessed Sophie Marceau; others guessed Juliette Binoche. SueThePirate correctly guessed Gwendoline Christie, which Martin confirmed in a follow-up post.

Christie will play Brienne, the Maid of Tarth.

Martin explained his clues as well. Previously, Christie was in a music video for Patrick Wolf’s song “Damaris” which is about Isabelle, the She-Wolf of France.
The clue “the barbican” stemmed from her theater credits, which include a Shakespeare production at London’s Barbican theatre. Her modeling credits include an Australian show called “Bunny.”

Martin’s announcement was met with approval by the fans, who seemed to agree that Christie is a “great choice” but, as zeroisanumber said, “The make-up guys will have their job cut out for them uglying her up enough to play the Maid of Tarth.”
