Ariana Grande tweeted the N-word in 2014, and critics say the tweet proves she’s racist.
Social media sleuths recovered the offending tweet this week, according to celebrity news site Girlfriend.com. In the tweet, dated Feb. 10, 2014, Grande tagged a user with the N-word in their handle. “Happy birthday valentine,” she wrote.
The handle that’s tagged currently leads to an account that was created in May 2014, so it’s likely that the handle belonged to a different user at the time of Grande’s tweet.
And Grande’s tweet, which has just over 3,000 likes, seems to have gone largely unnoticed until it was swarmed with comments this week. Some of her fans were shocked, some were angry, and some begged Grande to delete the tweet ASAP.
“Ariana wake up and DELETE this before you get dragged,” one user wrote.

But others weren’t convinced that the tweet wasn’t made intentionally.
“I can’t let a racist go away with it,” one user said, according to Girlfriend.com. “She literally typed the n-word just because she started blackfishing??? Gives you no right @ArianaGrande.”
Grande has previously been accused of both cultural appropriation and blackfishing, which Urban Dictionary describes as a non-Black person intentionally altering their skin to appear Black. She particularly drew criticism for her tan when she was featured on the cover of Vogue last summer.
