Arcade Fire on Thursday released a new single, “I Give You Power,” that features vocals from R&B legend Mavis Staples. The track landed on streaming service Tidal, which members Win Butler and Regine Chassagne are co-owners of.
Tidal subscribers can listen to it here.
According to Pitchfork, all proceeds will benefit the American Civil Liberties Union. It’s unclear if the song’s political timing is a reaction to Friday’s presidential inauguration.
The band previously teased “I Give You Power” in France, but otherwise has yet to specify whether it will anchor a new record. The fifth studio album would be the college rock giant’s first since 2013’s Reflektor.

The track features mud-on-the-tires, sludgy electronics; angelic, animated vocals from Butler and Staples; swampy organ; understated drumming at hip-hop tempos; a welcome splash of white-guy falsetto. And hey, a message of unity!
It’s never been more important that we stick together & take care of each other.
