New York comedians Desus Nice and The Kid Mero are making their return to television since leaving Viceland last year when the network allegedly ended their contracts 2 months short. The abrupt ending came after the comedy pair expressed that they were being undervalued at Viceland compared to the audience they were bringing in.
Ocasio-Cortez starts the video in a nod to the typical presidential candidacy announcement, saying she is forming an “exploratory committee.” The possible foreshadowing is cut short as Desus and Mero come into frame to reveal the true nature of the announcement.
Bronx solidarity is evident in the clip. Ocasio-Cortez flashes an “X” with her arms as she’s surrounded by Nice and Mero. “We her Secret Service, you don’t want these hands,” Desus says with his arm around the congresswoman.
Bodega Hive, a nickname for Desus and Mero’s fanbase, expressed elated at the announcement on Twitter and pointed out some possible unexpected consequences of the news.
