Get your sweats and tube of cookie dough ready, cause rom-coms are back, baby!
Netflix announced this week that standup/writer Ali Wong and Fresh off the Boat‘s Randall Park are set to star in a full-length romantic comedy for the streaming service. Apparently, the script got written after, nearly a year ago, Wong revealed that she and Park had toyed with the idea of writing a movie together, and the internet clamored for them to make it a reality.
Are you ready for the premise? According to Deadline, “[T]he film follows two childhood friends who find themselves in vastly different socioeconomic situations when they fall in love as adults.” It sort of sounds like Sweet Home Alabama, but with a long-overdue Asian-American couple playing the romantic leads. Plus, both stars’ comedy backgrounds means the “com” component in all this should really shine through.

No additional details about the cast or release date have been announced yet, but Netflix is reportedly “moving quickly to hire a director.”
Wong’s one-hour standup special Baby Cobra was released on the streaming service in 2016.
