May 22 is World Goth Day, and while the lockdown may be keeping everyone indoors, the goths are out in force on Twitter.
Goths shared selfies of themselves all dressed up and ready to smoke some cloves while reading sad poetry, a common goth hobby even before the pandemic forced us all to stay inside.
And there were some blasts from the past with elder goths sharing pics from back in the day, when goth was new and hair was large.
Pets got in on the action too, with black cats, black chickens, and a very stylish black-and-red parrot known as “the Dracula parrot” all making an appearance.
Gothic architecture got a look in too, courtesy of the people who love it.
As did gothic literature, with Twitter user The Pulp Librarian putting together a very interesting thread all about the genre—complete with recommendations if you’re looking for something new to occupy your quarantine time.
And the memes are pretty great.
While the Whitby Goth Weekend, the biggest goth gathering in Europe, may have been canceled thanks to the pandemic this year, that’s not stopping everyone from getting their eyeliner on in a responsible, socially distant way. And when things are back to normal, all their old haunts are ready to welcome them back.
