A new meme has exploded on Twitter that asks a simple question of men: “What is preventing you from looking like this?”
The answers, of course, reveal that some tasks are easier said than done.
The meme seemed to begin auspiciously enough on Monday, when @katiey_KE shared a photo of a chiseled male torso with the caption, “Dear men, what is preventing you from looking like this?” Judging by the nearly 14,000 responses, there were, in fact, many inhibiting factors.
Some users chafed at @katiey_KE’s myopic view of attractiveness, which basically required men to look like sexy mannequins. Several people flipped the question and asked what was preventing women from meeting some arbitrary beauty standard.
Others decided to make their own inquiries of men using @katiey_KE’s tweet as a template. That’s when things got weird.
Plenty of Twitter users shared photos of nerdy guys, chubby guys, old guys, etc. and demanded to know what was preventing men from looking like them. Others shared photos of—gasp—women and asked men the same question.
Ha-ha, all incredibly thoughtful and edgy spins on the original tweet. Then people started sharing dogs.
Dogs?
Yes, dogs. Buff dogs. Old dogs. Cartoon dogs. Dear men, what is preventing you from looking like a well-endowed K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing? We all need answers.
Fellas, it’s time to sit back, ponder your life choices, and ask what’s preventing you from looking like any of these fine specimens. Happy pondering.
