Welcome To My Life is a sweet, 8-minute film about the daily life of a teenage monster. It’s a quiet little story, with distinctive animation and a warm-hearted attitude.
Created by Elizabeth Ito, an Adventure Time writer and storyboard artist, Welcome To My Life is structured like a documentary. An offscreen interviewer chats with a suburban boy named T-Kash, discussing his life in a world where monsters and humans live side-by-side.
With naturalistic dialogue and cute animation, it reminded me of Creature Comforts, the series where Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit) matched real-life interviews with stop-motion animation of zoo animals. The dialogue is goofy yet realistic, like a conversation with a real kid.
It takes a lot of skill to use such a familiar idea—an outsider making friends at high school—and create something so original yet relatable.
