The coronavirus pandemic has left an untold number of couples who had been ready to walk down the aisle in 2020 in the lurch—with many having to postpone or even outright cancel their weddings. Not to mention, all of the lost deposits as many venues and catering companies will undoubtedly fail to bounce back even after things go back to whatever “normal” looks like going forward.
So while some engaged couples are opting for Zoom weddings, others are waiting until post-COVID times to walk down the aisle. But of course, in these strange times we live in, you don’t necessarily even have to be engaged to dream of walking down the aisle—or, “any aisle” really, according to a new meme making its way around Twitter.
It all started when Twitter user @TebbuttAlina tweeted a photo of an empty Jet2 flight on April 28, writing, “Can’t wait to walk down the aisle” with a heart-eyes emoji, clearly referring to the aisle of the airplane.
The tweet clearly struck a nerve with folks (I mean, imagine a pre-coronavirus world where you actually looked forward to boarding a cramped, stuffy flight?) as it has since been liked and retweeted hundreds of thousands of times.
Others soon began adding their own versions, whether walking down the aisle involves shopping for used clothes, books, candles, or what have you.
For others, this conjured places like amusement or theme parks:
Or how about going for a walk down the aisle at your favorite bars and restaurants, concerts and sporting events, or even movie theaters?
Heck, some imagined simple self care pleasures, such as just going to the dang gym or nail salon to walk down the aisle:
Who even knew there were so many places in the world to walk down the aisle, back in the days when we took walking down aisles for granted?
