The Tony Hawk games have been a bit off this past decade. After the tremendous Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 back in 2002, fans got a few other solid installments. These include Tony Hawk’s Underground and American Wasteland. After the eighth installment in the main series, Project 8, things started to go downhill. Project 8, although reviewed favorably, had a wonky launch and was very difficult to play.

Things really hit rock bottom when Tony Hawk: Ride was released in 2009. Trying to bank off the plastic peripheral phenomena from the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, Ride gave players a plastic skateboard to stand on in their living rooms. To put it plainly, it sucked.

In 2012, fans were greeted with an HD remake of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Windows. It was a good taste of nostalgia, but it didn’t satisfy fans looking for something greater.

With the original developer, Neversoft, now defunct and absorbed into the Call of Duty team, we’re cautiously optimistic about how Ride‘s studio, Robomodo, will tackle the main series.
