When you click on the Tinder icon on your smartphone, you know that you’re entering a world of games: name games, mind games, Nazi war games, games of deception—even Game of Thrones.
The latest trend on the world’s least substantive app? Actual games. Young lovers are flirting with emoji versions of tic-tac-toe and Connect Four.
This is Tinder, so of course our hero’s intentions aren’t entirely pure. If he wins, he requests that the girl reward him by providing her phone number.
Points here for creativity, and for the masterful use of the random circle emojis that no one really ever knows what to do with.
Perhaps tic-tac-toe is the better game for finding a love match. It does contain an “XO,” after all. And the opportunity lends itself to a Beyoncé reference, which is, as we all know, the true way to a woman’s heart.
On Reddit’s r/Tinder forum, Connect Four pops up a lot. The game seems to work—it’s a unique way to break the ice, after all—although most dudes don’t post their failures.
They don’t call it the game of love for nothing.
