Marijuana edibles are notorious for both their potency and their delayed effects. Many people don’t feel anything at first, but the head change hits them hard 30 to 40 minutes later. It’s only fitting that there’s a meme about this phenomenon—and that it’s as dank as the edibles themselves. It starts with the poster declaring, “this edible ain’t shit!” and it ends with … well, you’ll see.
The original “this edible ain’t shit” meme landed in November 2016, apparently sparked by this good joke from @edlauren11 on Twitter. If you think an edible “ain’t shit,” just wait—you may be in for an out-of-body experience. In front of your mom.

The extremely relatable meme carried on steadily through 2017, with popular entries like these:

It also intersected with other memes of the period, like saying “first of all …” on Twitter:

In true edible fashion, though, the “this edible ain’t shit” meme took some time to truly kick in. Out here in February 2018, we’re now feeling the full effects. Check out just a handful of the jokes that have been posted this month:

It seems that as marijuana has become legal in more U.S. states (notably California), making edibles way easier to obtain, this common experience has become a real “2018 mood.“
Remember, wait a while before you eat another one, unless you want to feel like a small dog floating away on balloons while tinny Game Boy music plays in the background. To each his own.
